McKeesport Housing Authority Wins $5,000 In Free Gas

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The McKeesport Housing Authority will receive about 9 months' worth of free fuel after being chosen as a winner in the Sunoco Free Fuel 5000 contest.

Joyce Vaughn, the accounts payable and compliance officer for the McKeesport Housing Authority, says the leadership team applied for Sunoco's fleet card program 6 years ago to save some money on gas while filling up their 12 company cars. Now through that program, the Housing Authority was chosen as a grand prize winner of the Free Fuel 5000 contest.

The Free Fuel 5000 contest awards $5,000 in Sunoco fuel to each of the grand prize winners. In a press release, the Housing Authority says they spend an average of $600 a month on fuel for company cars and equipment for grounds maintenance. The prize should cover about 9 months' worth of fuel.

"We serve 1,000 units of public housing in our area, so we have a lot of expenses and people to take care of," Vaughn said. "This prize is going to help our agency tremendously and will also benefit the taxpayers in our city. Sunoco is doing a wonderful thing with this contest."

This year was the 11th year for the Free Fuel 5000 contest, and there were 14 grand prize winners across the country.
