Preliminary Hearing Held For Man Accused In Fatal Fayette Co. Police Chase

UNIONTOWN (KDKA) – A man accused of leading police on a high speed chase in Fayette County that ended in a fatal accident was in court Monday.

Jonathan Switch, 23, is facing several charges, including homicide.

Switch's preliminary hearing on charges he was responsible for a woman who was struck by a state police cruiser as Switch was being pursued was held Monday afternoon in Uniontown. The charges will go on to court, but his parents say they are not the correct ones.

Switch had nothing to say as he walked out of his preliminary hearing, but his stepfather did.

"We just don't think he's responsible for what happened there, he didn't hit the woman," he said.

Switch faces criminal homicide charges after a state police cruiser that was chasing him slammed into an SUV. Bendetta Miller was in that vehicle, and she died as a result.

State police, as well as commonwealth prosecutors, say Switch was responsible for the death because it would have never happened if he had just stopped initially for a traffic stop.

"I mean, I know his actions caused what happened, but there's a lot of stuff that's gonna come out to show that he's not responsible for it, that's all," Switch's father, Gary Molek, said. "We just don't feel he's responsible for Mrs. Miller's death. We're sorry, we feel so bad for her family, but we don't feel that… Our condolences for her family, but we don't feel that he's responsible. We feel the officer's responsible, he was driving unsafely."

Charged with criminal homicide, Switch remains in the Fayette County Jail, held without bond.
