D.A.: Bloomfield Home Invasion Suspect, 2 Victims Killed With Same Gun
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- There are new details in the suspected home invasion in Bloomfield that left three young people dead in the early morning hours of Monday.
Investigators say they will now charge 22-year-old Meiko Devaughn, Jr. in connection with the incident. He lived in the apartment where it happened.
Police were first called to the apartment in the 200-block of Mathilda Street around midnight Monday.
According to the Allegheny County District Attorney, the alleged home invasion suspect, identified as 25-year-old Kadeem Williams of Homestead, did attempt to break into the home by crawling through a bathroom window, but did not fire the shots that killed the two victims inside.
District Attorney Stephen Zappala says no gun was found on Williams, who was also shot and killed during the incident.
Instead, Zappala says Williams and the two other victims, 16-year-old Jaimill Kenny and 20-year-old Akeilah Soloman, were all shot and killed with the same stolen gun.
"This is not a random act of violence, nor do we believe that anybody in this situation intended to take anybody's life," Zappala said while visiting the apartment where it happened Tuesday afternoon.
Zappala says he believes this could have been a home invasion, a robbery allegedly over marijuana.
He says Williams was dressed as though he were going to commit a robbery, but no gun was found near him when he was found shot behind the apartment building. Instead, Zappala says the gun that Devaughn had was used to shoot the victims.
Devaughn lived in the apartment, Soloman was his girlfriend and Kenny was his brother.
"The ballistic guys are going to go back; they're going to run lasers to confirm what we believe there are more… there's two guns in play," Zappala said. "So, if somebody comes in your house with a weapon, takes a shot at you, you're entitled to protect yourself and your family."

Drugs and money were also found inside the home, authorities said.
The .40-caliber gun used to fatally shoot the victims was found in an umbrella stand in the apartment, investigators said. It was stolen from Butler County. Police believe it was in the possession of Devaughn.
Authorities say because he may have been protecting himself, Devaughn may not face homicide charges. Instead, he'll face counts of drug possession and firearms possession.
Meanwhile, investigators are still looking at possibility of a second firearm and at the possibility of a second intruder.
