Popular Holiday Light Show Comes To Big Butler Fairgrounds

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Now that all the presents are opened and the holiday rush is settling down a little, maybe you're looking for something festive to do this weekend.

You might want to check out "Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland."

It takes about a half hour to drive through "Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland" at the Big Butler Fairgrounds. The lights are synchronized to music you can hear on your car radio.

"This has been an awesome light show, the kids loved it," Gretchen Kelly of Harrisville said. "It was great."

The Shadrack family has shows in Charlotte, Birmingham, Greenville and Ashville, to name a few locations.

Jack Cohen from the Butler County Tourism Bureau gave them a call after a board member saw one of those displays down south.

"I called 'em, I said, 'Hey, do you ever think about coming up north?' And he said, 'We're talking about expanding, but we're not sure exactly where we want to go,'" Cohen said. "I said, 'I'm gonna send you a ticket, I'm paying for your airfare. Come on up. I want to show you.'"

The Shadrack folks have now been signed to a 5-year contract here, and so far, the reviews seem good.

"We used to go to Hartwood Acres every year with the girls, so we saw this was up here, and we wanted to try it out and see what it was like," Colleen Neff of Chicora said.

There's also an opportunity to meet Santa before you leave. Admission to see the lights is $25 per car, with some of that going to charity.

"Shadrack's Christmas Wonderland" runs until January 3rd. Be aware, though: there have been some issues lately with a lot of traffic getting there, especially on the weekends.
