Third Brother Involved In Greene County Prison Escape In Custody

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Police say they have arrested the third Hanlan brother who was involved in a Greene County Prision break-out last week.

State police confirm that 29-year-old Shane Hanlon was arrested Thursday morning. Police said that Shane was involved in his brother Waylon's escape from Greene County Prison in late December.

Police say that late Wednesday night, state police received a tip that Shane was spotted with 70-year-old Hodge Hanlan, the Hanlan siblings' father, driving toward Bobtown. State police then searched the Hanlan residence on Bald Hill Church Road. Shane was not there, but police interviewed Hodge, who said he had not seen Shane.

Around 6:15 a.m. Thursday, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force discovered Shane at the Hanlan residence with Hodge. Shane resisted arrest, but was taken into custody, charged with resisting arrest and escape and sent to Greene County Prison pending arraignment.

State police obtained a warrant for Hodge and returned to the Hanlan residence, but Hodge was not home. State police are now searching for Hodge for warrant service.

Waylon, 27, scaled a fence at the prison on Dec. 27 and ran into a wooded area. His sister, 19-year-old Vanessa Hanlan, and another brother, Clinton Hanlan, were also involved in Waylon's escape. Waylon, Vanessa and Clinton were all caught and arrested last week.

All three brothers were seen in the same vehicle on Bald Hill Church Road near West Virginia on Dec. 29. When police approached the vehicle, Waylon and Shane got out and fled the scene on foot, while Clinton took off in the car. Waylon and Clinton were both caught and arrested, but Shane managed to escape.

Both Clinton and Vanessa Hanlan are facing charges of criminal conspiracy and hindering apprehension.

Waylon was originally in jail for a probation violation and misdemeanor charges of fleeing, eluding and simple assault.
