6 Kids Injured In Crash, Woman Facing DUI Charges

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – State police say six children were in the car with Raelynn Thompson, 28, when she crashed into a concrete barrier.

The accident happened just before 3 a.m. Monday.

According to court papers, Thompson, who had a suspended driver's license due to a previous DUI, failed to navigate a sharp left curve, coming off the Parkway East inbound, at the Squirrel Hill exit.

A trooper on the scene of the accident reported that Thompson had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and bloodshot, glossy eyes. Police say her speech was slurred and she couldn't perform a field sobriety test.

None of the six children inside the Lexus sedan were wearing seat belts. The children range in age from 6 to 13. They were all taken to Children's Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

In addition to the DUI and traffic violations, Thompson faces six counts of recklessly endangering another person, six counts of accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed.

Thompson's preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for next month.
