Lawyers Due At Hearing In Justice's Bawdy Emails Case

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Lawyers for a suspended state Supreme Court justice and the agency that prosecutes judicial misconduct allegations are due in a Harrisburg courtroom.

Thursday's ethics court hearing is meant to iron out issues before Justice Michael Eakin goes on trial for bawdy and objectionable emails. The scandal has led dozens of people to be fired or disciplined.

The ethics charges were lodged against Eakin, a Republican, last fall, after Attorney General Kathleen Kane contacted the high court and ethics agencies about the emails.

Kane, a Democrat, is fighting criminal charges she leaked secret grand jury material to a newspaper and lied about it under oath. She recently requested that the Supreme Court reinstate her law license, which it suspended after she was charged in August.
