Truck Drivers Hunker Down While Stranded On Pennsylvania Turnpike

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - For two days, some unlucky travelers were stranded on a stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Many of those stuck in the snow were truck drivers.

From Saturday afternoon until Sunday, Juan Madrigal waited to resume his trip to Harrisburg. The cab of his truck became his temporary hotel room.

"Too many accidents, they don't have enough equipment to clean the roads," said Madrigal.

Luckily, he was in good shape with supplies.

"I got food, plenty of water, got my TV, I'm prepared," Madrigal said.

Other truckers were not so well off. Tim Roberts was stuck in New Stanton since early Saturday, and he wasn't happy.

"There's a lot of drivers out here that need their medication, no place to go to the bathroom or get something to eat," Roberts said.

Vic Bedessin was hoping to return to New Jersey after being stranded for days in New Stanton.

"Once I got to the turnpike I was told it was closed. I just want to get home that's all," he said.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday, 48 hours after the storm began, all lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike reopened.
