Pittsburgh Zoo Workers Rescue Ostrich From Frozen Creek

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Workers at the Pittsburgh Zoo really had to stick their necks out to save an ostrich which had fallen through some ice.

Home video posted on YouTube shows the ostrich struggling after breaking through the ice as zoo goers looked on.

The zoo says the female ostrich was confused on how to get back out of the ice.

At one point you can see some half a dozen zoo workers trying to help rescue the bird.

Workers used metal rods in an attempt to clear the stream of the ice so that the ostrich could make its way back to land.

After several attempts to get the ostrich to safety, zoo employee Jesse Anna finally jumped into the icy waters to help.

Anna helped walk alongside the young bird and guided her back to the shoreline so she could get out with help from the other zoo keepers.

He helped guide the animal back to land, where onlookers cheered.

The ostrich was not hurt during the ordeal.

Zoo keepers dried her off, and gave her a blanket to make sure she was warm.
