Cops: Man Stole Badges While Held In Mayor's Office For Questioning

IRWIN, Pa. (AP) - Police say a western Pennsylvania man stole several badges while he was being held in the mayor's office for questioning last year.

Police say 26-year-old Robert Dingeldein stole the badges Oct. 30 when he was being held by Irwin police for questioning in a domestic dispute. Police put him in the office to keep him away from a woman that police were also questioning in the same incident.

What the police didn't know at the time is that Dingeldein stole four badges and some other paraphernalia while he was in the office. Police say they learned that last month when someone else returned one of the stolen badges. They say Dingeldein has since apologized and returned the others.

He faces a preliminary hearing May 18 on theft-related charges. He doesn't have an attorney or listed phone.
