Target To Launch Gender-Neutral Home Decor Line For Kids

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Target is going gender-neutral, at least in its newest home decor collection for kids.

Shoppers here in Pittsburgh seem the like the idea.

From bedding to furniture, Target's Pillowfort collection features more than 1,200 pieces.

There are 12 themes of pattern and print and most of them blur the lines between what is for girls and what is for boys.

"I think it would be a wonderful thing, doesn't have to be pink if it's a girl, doesn't have to be blue if it's a boy," Beverly Agee said.

"I think it's a great idea, especially if they add a little pink camo to the mix," Daniel Houk said.

The Pillowfort line will have some pink and some blue, but those items will be limited.

Instead, customers will see prints with things like bicycles, astronauts and animals.

"It's nice to an extent, but I do think it's also nice for boys to have boy colors and girls to have girl colors," Aly Thompson said.

The neutral designs seem to fall in line with a move the company made last summer.

That's when Target representatives announced they would take down signs that specified to "boys" and "girls" in departments like toys and entertainment.

Now, there are mainly gender-neutral signs throughout stores.

The Pillowfort collection launches in stores and online on Feb. 21.
