Egg Spotted In Hays Bald Eagle Nest

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- An egg was spotted Saturday morning in the bald eagle nest in the city's Hays section.

One of the eagles was seen sitting on the egg around 7:30 a.m. Saturday on the Hays bald eagle nest live stream.

Bill Powers, the president/CEO of PixController, said the egg was "totally unexpected."

According to the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania, the egg was laid overnight while the camera was off. They say the eagles will remain in the nest until the egg hatches. The eagles turn the egg every so often to make sure the egg maintains its temperature.

Saturday night, an eagle could be seen hunkered down, protecting the egg from brutally cold temperatures.

The Audubon Society says if more eggs are laid, it will likely happen in the next few days.

Last February, eagle-watchers were saddened when the eagles lost two eggs.
