Police: Woman Breaking Into Cranberry Twp. Homes, Looking For Drugs & Money

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Police in Cranberry Township are warning residents to be on the lookout for a woman who has been breaking into homes.

Police describe the suspect as a young woman, possibly even a teenager, and they hope to track her down before someone gets hurt.

People love to live in Cranberry Township because it's a community where you can feel safe, but police say since Nov. 16, someone has been burglarizing homes, stealing prescription drugs and cash.

There have six burglaries, two of them in the last week, and all late at night. Police say some of them have happened along Fernway Drive.

In some cases, victims have encountered the burglar.

"She comes up with various excuses, why she was in the house," says Cranberry Township Sgt. Chuck Mascellino. She was in the wrong house, things like that, and generally, she flees when confronted by the homeowners."

The suspect is described as a young white female with a petite build, possibly as young as late-teens and possibly as old as in her 40s. She wears a hoodie pulled up around her head.

Police say in one incident she claimed to have a gun, but never showed one.

Police say in five of the cases she's simply opened unlocked doors to get into the homes, but in one case, she actually broke in.

Investigators are worried a victim will get hurt, or possibly even the suspect as she sneaks into homes.

Police are telling people to be on the lookout for anything suspicious and also to keep their doors and windows locked, even when they're at home.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Cranberry Township Police Department.
