Munhall Mayor Honored For Decades Of Service

MUNHALL (KDKA) - Munhall has been the mayor's workplace since 1964. He was auditor for eight years, then served on council for 15 and took over as mayor when Gummy Knight died in office after 30 years on the job.

"In '87, I began the saying 'Magnificent Munhall, the future begins here,' and that still goes. We are going to pick up on that again," Mayor Raymond Bodnar said.

Council issued a proclamation to honor Bodnar and his wife Jane, who have been married 60 years.

"God bless you and Jane particularly, god bless you because of the work the mayor does and has done for so many years, particularly for Munhall borough, but for the Steel Valley and the Mon Valley region as a whole," said Senator Jay Costa.

The Korea War army veteran may have slowed down a little over the years, but he still loves everything about his borough.

"All of these things over the past years since 1972, being on council and being the mayor the last 30 years, I have a lot of memories that are involved here," Bodnar said.

And he still has his sense of humor when council presented him with a photo to honor his decades of service.

"Who's the old guy?" he joked.

He is someone who loves Munhall and its people with all his heart.

"This town is number one in Pennsylvania far as I am concerned. Love them. Love the people. They are the best, and I will always love the people. This is my home," he said.
