North Allegheny Freshman Basketball Star Sinks Full-Court Shot At Buzzer

WEXFORD (KDKA) -- It's safe to say that every basketball player dreams of making a full-court shot, at the buzzer.

Well, that dream came true Tuesday night, for a girl on the North Allegheny team.

Freshman guard Rachel Martindale made the shot as time ran out in the third quarter. Her team went on to win the WPIAL semifinal against Penn Hills.

Among those in the crowd was her father, Bruce Martindale.

"As a dad, my heart was pumping," he says. "I couldn't believe it, and all my friends were jumping up and down."

"What was amazing was watching my teammates' reactions to the shot, and how excited they were for me," Rachel says. "My coach had to hold some of them back."

Two days later, they're still excited.

"When it went in, it was, of course, if anyone, it was Rachel Martindale," says teammate Taylor Lake.

"I know she can make shots like that, and it went in, and I sprinted all the way across the court to the other corner," Hailey Zeise adds.

"She's always made them, so right when she let go, I said, 'It's going in, it's going in!" says Abby Gonzales.

She flings the ball once more before Thursday practice begins, and hears the familiar "swish" as the ball rips the cords.

And once again, she is mobbed by teammates.
