Pittsburgh Barbers Give Free Haircuts To Homeless

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh barbers lent their shears to a good cause Sunday.

The Barber Schools of Pittsburgh of Ambridge and Pittsburgh teamed up with the Kevin Croney Foundation to provide food, clothes and haircuts to homeless people and families in need.

Along with hair stylists of J.E.T. Salon of Oakmont, the organizers of the event said they hope it will "help those who need to feel better about themselves."

Kelly Kolling, a representative for the schools, said a good shave makes people feel important.

"One gentleman was teary-eyed, said he hadn't been this clean in a long time and it made him feel good about himself," she explained. "It gives them a boost of confidence, maybe they'll find a job or at least have the confidence to apply for a job."

They hope to hold the event again on an annual basis.

The Kevin Croney Foundation was started in memory of Kevin Croney, who was murdered at his New Kensington tattoo parlor last year. He was known for helping with cancer patients undergoing breast reconstruction, tattooing what looks like a nipple on the breast.

His wife, Cheri, began the foundation to give back.

"The best thing to do is give to people who can't give anything back to you in return. It's a random act of kindness, and they truly do appreciate it," she said.
