Ex-VFW Commander Accused Of Racking Up Thousands In Debt On Organization Credit Card
MIDLAND (KDKA) -- A former Beaver County VFW commander is now behind bars, accused of spending thousands of dollars on an organization credit card over several years.
According to a police report, 51-year-old Donald Smith charged the Midland VFW's credit card 568 times, racking up more than $103,000 worth of debt.
The former commander of Midland VFW Post 8168 used the credit card mainly at the ATM, according to the Beaver County Times.
He also charged the card at gas stations and for entertainment subscriptions like DirectTV, Blizzard Entertainment and Xbox Live.
Retail purchases were also made at Game Stop, Family Dollar, Lowe's, Journey's, Bath and Body Works and Boscov's.
The 16-page affidavit states that Smith used the credit card between October 2012 and April 2014, and overdraft charges continued into June of 2014.
KDKA's Amy Wadas reached out to the spokesperson of the VFW and he said he has no comment on the matter. Midland's police chief was also unavailable for comment.

Smith has been charged with 568 counts of unauthorized credit card use, 568 counts of theft and 568 counts of receiving stolen property.
He was arraigned Wednesday morning and is out on bond.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 21 at 9 a.m.
