David Freese Ecstatic To Be A Pirate

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- The Pirates signed infielder David Freese to a one year contract Friday. Last year, Freese hit .257 with 14 home runs for the Angels. Freese caught up with Dan Zangrilli on Bucco Talk.

"I'm excited to get out here and be a Pirate. For this to go through, to get down here (Friday) and get a little workout in, I'm ecstatic, so I'm ready to go," Freese said.

In 2011, Freese was named MVP of the National League Championship Series and the World Series as a member of the Cardinals. Freese told Zangrilli that he took notice as the Pirates turned things around.

"I was around on the other side (with the Cardinals), but I was around when things kind of started to turn for the Pirates a few years ago, man, and I admire what these guys do and how they go about it," Freese said. "It's great to put this jersey on, I'm excited about that and have a chance to win."

Zangrilli asked Freese about his ability to play first base.

"I brought a first base mitt down here but I'm just really here to do what the Pirates and what Clint Hurdle ask me to do, and if that's to get over at first and kind of get used to it over there, then I'm going to do that," Freese said.
