Dead & Neglected Animals Removed From Ligonier Twp. Farm

LIGONIER TWP. (KDKA) -- Several animals were found dead on a farm in Ligonier Township Thursday, while others were discovered neglected.

Among the deceased animals were a cow and a pig. The Humane Society of Westmoreland County rescued scores of live animals that were in bad shape, including two calves, a pig and three dogs.

The farm owner, Daniel Weimer, was reportedly letting the living animals feed off of the deceased ones.

Weimer railed against Humane Society agents, furious that they raided the property he's allegedly been squatting on for 15 years.

"Everything here is unfair. They lie, cheat and steal, that's a theft right there going on," he said. "If they [animals] die, so what, big deal. I did everything I could."

Agents said that the conditions were unfit for living.

"When we showed up, there lots of dead animals and deplorable conditions," said Jan Dillion with the Humane Society. "He just left them all over the property. There's bodies everywhere, bones everywhere."

The livestock were taken to a large animal rescue. The dogs to the Humane Society of Westmoreland Couty in Greensburg.

Mr. Weimer has the opportunity to get the animals back at a hearing in the near future. However, he will also have to face being evicted himself.
