Couple Accused Of Giving Alcohol To Teen Driver

CHARTIERS TWP. (KDKA) -- The mother and stepfather of a Chartiers Township crash victim have been charged with giving beer to the teen who was behind the wheel.

Amy M. Holmes, 39, and Melvin Guy Holmes, 39, have been charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor and corruption of minors.

Holmes' 21-year-old daughter Corey Mitchell was in a car driven by Holden Alexander, 17, when it crashed on Route 19 around 9 p.m. on Christmas.

The car went off the road, hit a utility pole and landed on its top. There was no snow or ice on the road.

"When I arrived, there was an ejected female, the driver was entrapped," said Officer Ashley Price.

Mitchell was in a coma for a time, and is now participating in physical therapy for her injuries.

Alexander's blood alcohol level was found to be 0.111 percent and cans of Yeungling were reportedly found inside the car.

Police said they were told that both defendants provided Alexander beer at the family's Christmas celebration.

"Neither of them have admitted it to detectives, but they admitted it to witnesses," Price said.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 1.
