Washington Health System To Form Own Police Force

WASHINGTON (KDKA) -- Washington Hospital will soon have a private police force.

According to the Observer-Reporter, a Washington County judge signed an order Thursday allowing Washington Health System to hire private officers to work in its facilities.

State law allows for nonprofits that have buildings open to the public to appoint police as security.

The officers are expected to be on patrol by the beginning of July.

Hiring of the private officers will require them to pass necessary background checks for employment and carrying firearms.
