Pirates Pack Up To Leave Florida, Return To Pittsburgh

BRADENTON (KDKA) -- As Jeff Locke threw six innings at Pirate City, his and the other players' belongings sat stacked near the McKechnie Field loading dock.

Scott "Bones" Bonnett, Pirates Clubhouse Manager, and his equipment team had their hands full today loading the tractor-trailer with baseball equipment headed for PNC Park.

"You never know what you are going to get into. A guy could pull up in a truck and have a suitcase, a guy could pull up and have ten suitcases. You never know if there's a bed in there, a stroller, a bike," Bonnett said.

He explained that coaches, players and staff brought everything under the sun.

"We've got guitars, we've got beds, we've got strollers, we've got Pampers. We have golf clubs, we have, let's see, we have a juicer in here somewhere I think I saw," Bonnett said.

On the tags are the names you know, but some occur more than others.

"I'm going to have to say Josh Harrison, he's come in with four, maybe five loads of stuff," Bonnett said.

When word came of cuts Tuesday, players' things were extracted for the ride to Pirate City a few miles away.

Meanwhile, in front of McKechnie, the players' cars were getting loaded on trucks for the ride north.

Maurice McMillan will be driving one of the trucks loaded with players' luxury cars.

"An enormous amount of pressure, but I 'm used to it. Just like the athletes, they're used to it," he said.

As the trucks rolled out, the Pittsburgh Pirates are packing all their gear and preparing to head home. They should be in Pittsburgh Friday.
