Men Sentenced In Deadly 2012 Drunk Driving Case

MURRYSVILLE (KDKA) -- Two men have been sentenced in a deadly drunk driving accident that happened four years ago.

On June 23, 2012, Andy Lysell, 18, died in a car crash in Murrysville.

Lysell survived the initial crash, caused by friend Michael Kralovic losing control around a curve. But as he crawled out of his wrecked vehicle, he was hit and killed by another friend who was following closely behind.

Michael Kralovic and Jacob A. Vrudney, both 21, were charged with homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and driving under the influence.

Kralovic's blood alcohol level was .135 the night of the crash, seven times the legal limit for a minor. Vrudney measured at .154 blood alcohol level.

On Friday, Kralovic and Vrudney were sentenced to a mandatory three to six years behind bars.

Kralovic is out on an appeal bond while his attorneys appeal. Vrudney will immediately begin to serve his sentence.

Lysell's mother told KDKA that her son and Kralovic were "like brothers," and that she does not wish him to serve any jail time.

"You can't blame everyone else for what your child is doing. I talked to Andy about drinking and driving. I talked to him about riding with drunk drivers. I really thought I did get through to him. But that night they were out celebrating their graduation like most teenage boys will do, and they just made the wrong choices now they have to pay for it," Susan Lysell said.
