Water Main Break Closes Part Of Perry Highway In McCandless

MCCANDLESS (KDKA)- Part of Perry Highway was closed this morning due to a large water main break.

The break happened around 3:34 a.m. near the intersection with Ingomar Road.

Perry Highway (Route 19) was closed in both directions between Pine Creek Road and Ingomar Road for nearly four hours. It has since reopened.

Gallons of water pushing up from the ground caused the shoulder of the road to buckle.

West View Water Authority is in the process of excavating the line to see if it was cracked or split.

Three businesses along that stretch were impacted, including The Dog Stop. Owner Mike Oldaker said he got a call this morning from his general manager.

"We were trickling water and she was told it was going to be an all-day project and we were eventually going to run out of water," Oldaker said.

He was working to try and get more supplies from the water company.

West View Water Authority said this afternoon they were in the process of replacing the pipe and hoped to have the main back in full service by 4 p.m.
