Clear Weekend Expected After Rain Moves Through Friday

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A Friday afternoon cold front will make for a bumpy start to the weekend. Saturday and Sunday, however, will be pleasant and seasonal with highs in the 60s both days.

According to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Ron Smiley, rain showers and an occasional thunderstorm or two are possible this afternoon as a cold front rolls through.

At this point, it looks like rain will develop south of Lake Erie along Interstate 80 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. This weak broken line will then creep to the south. The line should be in Pittsburgh by 7 p.m.

The front will bring much needed rain as the area has been dry for the past week.

At the start of the day, Smiley thought we would see about 0.35 of an inch of rain. This morning's rain brought only 0.05 of an inch of rain to Pittsburgh. We are now likely to see about a quarter of an inch of rain for the day after the next round rolls through this evening.

Picture perfect weather returns as we head into Saturday with cool conditions to start the day. Any clouds around as we start the day should quickly burn off with sunshine for the afternoon.

Highs on Saturday will be close to the seasonal high average of 64 degrees. Smiley is forecasting a Saturday high of 63 degrees.

Sunday should be just as nice, but warmer with highs near 70 degrees. Skies are expected to be clear with winds coming out of the southeast.

The next chance for rain in Western Pennsylvania after today will be on Tuesday.

For the month, we are slightly behind at 1.64 inches. We would normally expect to have seen about 2.29 inches of rain through today.

For the year, we are also about an inch behind when it comes to total rain. The Pittsburgh airport has recorded 9.4 inches of rain and through today.

The 30-year average says we should have expected to see about 10.33 inches.
