Two Buffalo Township Officers Die In One Week

BUFFALO TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Buffalo Township is reeling after two police officers died in one week.

Lt. Alan Behanna, a 34-year veteran of the force, died April 13 at Butler Memorial Hospital, according to the Butler Eagle.

According to John Haven, chairman of the township supervisors, Behanna passed away on duty after forgetting to take medication.

On Tuesday, just one day after Behanna's burial, tragedy struck again. 44-year-old Patrolman Jason Sappe, a 16-year member of the police force, died at a Pittsburgh-area hospital.

Family members said he died due to complications from pneumonia.

Haven said the loss has left the community hurting.
