Tiger Woods Files Paperwork To Play In 2016 US Open At Oakmont

While guys like Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day are now the biggest names and draws on the PGA Tour, one name is still synonymous with golf the world over, and that is of course Tiger Woods.

Woods, who hasn't played in a tournament since the Wyndham Championship in August of 2015, may finally be ready for his return to the game after he reportedly filed the necessary paperwork required to play in the 2016 U.S. Open, taking place at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, PA from June 13-19.

Woods needed to file the proper paperwork by Wednesday but reportedly had filed the documents on April 4.

The 14-time major champion's return has been the source of much speculation. Reports have tabbed the Wells Fargo Open or the Memorial Tournament - which Woods has one five times - as two likely options for his return.

Both of those possibilities seem even more likely now as it's highly unlikely he'll go into the U.S. Open without one, possibly more tournaments under his belt.

Either way, Woods will definitely draw tons of eyeballs and interest whenever he does make his return to the course and it looks like that day could be coming much sooner than later.

Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he'd gladly trade them for just one championship for any of his other three teams.
