Immigration Rally Held In Beechview
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- For centuries, America has been called a great melting pot, where people of all ethnicities blend into one population.
"I am very happy to be here with all of my people," said Imam Hamza Perez.
He was one of the speakers at an immigration rally near the St. Catherine of Siena Church in Beechview.
"I am kind of Donald Trump's worst nightmare because I am Latino and I am Muslim. And Latinos here in America, we have a population of over 100,000 Latino Muslims," Perez said.
Along with local labor and community groups, they met, talked and marched, in an effort to raise awareness about issues important to their collective groups.
"This is an issue of humanity. This country began with people coming here and we have to have systems to help people come here in a good way, in a safe way, and at the same time by obeying the laws and doing the right things."

The imam believes it is critical that we listen to others, and not simply force our views on them.
"I think it's a lack of cultural sensitivity, a lack of reaching out to people, and I think we can just do a better job of being more accommodating. but dealing with the issues of immigration in a more balanced way," he said.
Organizers of the event say the rally was important in light of what they termed hate speech by presidential canditates during the election.
