Two Bicyclists Injured In Garfield Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Two bicyclists were injured in a crash involving an SUV in Garfield late Tuesday night.

It happened just before midnight, in the 5400 block of Penn Avenue.

According to police, the women were attempting to pass a parked vehicle when they were struck by the SUV.

A 20-year-old woman was pinned under the SUV.

"One of the females was pinned underneath the vehicle and paramedics and police were able to rescue her from underneath that vehicle," Pittsburgh Public Safety Spokeswoman Emily Schaffer said.

She was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where she was last listed in critical condition.

A 22-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and was also transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

The 26-year-old male driver remained on the scene after the accident.

"He's being cooperative, stayed on scene and his vehicle was towed from the scene," Schaffer said. "We will continue to investigate to see if there were any other factors that were involved, maybe if it was really dark in that area, but at this time we're still trying to gather all the facts with this investigation."

No charges have been filed at this time.
