Teen Accused Of Shooting Pregnant Girl Found Guilty

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A young man accused of shooting a pregnant teen and killing her unborn baby has been found guilty.

The jury received the case on Tuesday and returned a guilty verdict for Eric Taylor this morning. Taylor was found guilty of homicide of an unborn child and attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and firearms charges.

"It wasn't a first-degree as to the baby, they found third, which is a killing with malice, which means they didn't find intent to kill the baby, but they did find intent to kill the mother," defense attorney Chris Conrad said.

Taylor was being tried as an adult in the case.

"The victim herself has known him for seven or eight years, been a friend of her brother and so on. When she was initially interviewed she said I don't know who shot me but ill know him again if I see him and she never was able to make an identification of him," Conrad said.

Conrad said they plan to file an appeal.

The incident began with a knock at the door in the middle of the night on Friendship Street in Duquesne back in May of 2014. DaRae Delgado, who 15 at the time and was seven months pregnant, opened the door and there was gunfire.

She was shot four times.

Last week, both the shooting victim and her mother took the stand recalling the night of the shooting.

The testimony was emotional, especially when the defense cross-examined the victim and the prosecutor showed the jury pictures of where a gunshot hit the fetus.

The medical examiner testified the fetus died of a gunshot wound that went through the body.

Taylor will be sentenced on Aug. 3, where he could face 43 1/2 to 87 years in prison.
