General Electric To Close Solar Inverter Plant In Blawnox

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – General Electric will be closing a plant in the Pittsburgh area, which will put more than 200 people out of work.

Officials at the General Electric solar inverter plant in Blawnox confirmed that 250 workers at the plant will be losing their jobs and that the plant will close by the end of the year.

The plant makes an inverter, which takes energy from solar panels and converts it into electric power.

A company official said the plant doesn't have "real sustained demand" for its products

General Electric officials say that of the 130 workers not losing their jobs, some will continue to work on projects in the Pittsburgh area and the others will be transferred to a plant in Houston.
