Turkey Flies Through Windshield Of Port Authority Bus, Walks Away

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – An unexpected passenger flew into a Port Authority bus Wednesday morning.

According to officials, a wild turkey crashed through the windshield of the the P12 bus from Holiday Park along the East Busway. The incident happened around 6:40 a.m. between the Herron Avenue exit and the 26th Street ramp.

The turkey landed inside the bus and skittered around.

The impact damaged the windshield, and took many of those on-board the P12 by surprise.

Bill Fabrizi, from Apollo, said, "I was actually sleeping in the back of the bus there and woke up to a crash, shattering glass, and I saw there was a bird flapping up in the front of the bus."

A Port Authority spokesman says the bus driver stopped the bus, opened the door and the turkey made its exit. The large bird had to find another way to get to its destination.

No one on the bus was injured.

"I wasn't sure if we were crashing or what was happening, but luckily, everybody was okay," Fabrizi said.

Riders say they've seen lots of wildlife in and around the East Busway.

"I've seen wild turkeys and deer," Loretta Council said.

Courtney Thrall, from Polish Hill, said, "They're hearty birds; they always look pretty tough. I'm pretty surprised it didn't die, honestly."
