Bar Patrons Build Solution After Bridge Renovation Causes Inconvenience On Chicken Wing Night
NEW BRIGHTON (KDKA) -- Reconstruction of a bridge on Block House Run Road has caused a bit of inconvenience in New Brighton.
For many, the detour makes for a much longer trip to the Long Branch Saloon, a major concern on chicken wing night.
Contractor Greg Nebo came to the rescue, after discussing the problem with his pal, Bud Rombold.
"He had some wood that we could put across," Nebo recalls. "And I said I had a walk platform that we could use, and it's 24-feet long, two-feet wide. And I dropped it off."
The aluminum scaffolding is just long enough to bridge the stream. No more detours. And the creek provided material for the stairway, with help from Bud's wife Sharon and grandson Devin.
"Devin helped to get some rocks out of the creek, and helped my husband to build the steps," Sharon Rombold says. "And then they painted the rock so they could see."

The homemade pedestrian bridge is good news for saloon co-owner Lisa Houy.
"It's five miles around, so it's real helpful," she says.
Greg Nebo agrees.
"I'm less than a mile up the road, and I got here in no time. But now it took 12 to 14 minutes to get around," he said.
So, was this a true emergency?
"Well, yeah," he answers. "We had to get there for wing night."
