Leechburg Parents Concerned Over Inappropriate Contact Allegations Against Teacher

LEECHBURG (KDKA) - A substitute teacher in the Leechburg School District is accused of having inappropriate contact with several students.

So far, at least nine girls have come forward.

Officials say the alleged contact has been going on since February, but police were only alerted on Friday.

Parents are upset over the accusations.

"You don't have eyes in there and you trust people to take care of your kids," one woman said.

The woman, who didn't want to be identified, said she's appalled by the accusations.

"A couple days ago, they came home and they said that a teacher is being investigated for touching some girls' butts and stuff. Then, they told me yesterday that they needed to go to the police station because they had witnessed it," she said.

The teacher, who hasn't been identified, allegedly had inappropriate physical contact with girls he taught ranging from 4th to 9th grade.

"My daughter personally got her hair stroked by him, and he said that he wants her hair. I guess they were in health class and he was massaging girls' shoulders," the concerned parent said.

According to the nine girls who gave police written statements, the contact started in late February and ended last Thursday. Leechburg Police said they didn't find out about it until Friday when a concerned teacher called a child abuse hotline.

"I think they're handling it well. They told the kids to go straight home if they know anything, tell your parents," she said.

The Leechburg superintendent confirmed that the substitute teacher involved is no longer teaching at the school.

Leechburg Police said that any parents who believe that their children may involved should call the police station or Armstrong County 911.
