2 Kids, 2 Adults Found In Bullet-Riddled Car In Waterfront Parking Lot

HOMESTEAD (KDKA) -- Police are looking for suspects after a car carrying two adults and two children was shot up in the city's Hazelwood section and then ended up in the parking lot of a store at the Waterfront.

Investigators say they believe the car was hit by gunfire at the intersection of Imogene Road and Desdemona Avenue in Hazelwood around 7:50 p.m.

An undercover officer then noticed the bullet-riddled vehicle speeding toward the Homestead Grays Bridge and followed it to the parking lot of the Men's Wearhouse in the Waterfront.

Police found four people inside the vehicle – an injured 26-year-old man who was the driver, a woman and two young girls in the backseat.

It was first reported that the man had been shot in the back, but police now say he was only hit in the back by shrapnel.

He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment and has since been released.

The woman and children were unharmed.

"There may have been some flying glass or debris that struck them, but they're going to the hospital only to be with the male who was shot," said Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesperson Sonya Toler.

Police say the shots may have been fired from a white vehicle.

Authorities are searching for suspects.

Officials with The Waterfront have released this statement on the incident:

"We are saddened to see another senseless act of violence take place in our City. Because it did not occur on our property, no one in or around The Waterfront was involved. We take our retailers and customers safety very seriously and consider it our top priority. We will assist Pittsburgh Police as needed as they continue their investigation."
