Cops: Woman Leaves Child In Care Of Stranger After Crash & Flees

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – A woman is facing charges for leaving a child in the care of a stranger and taking off after an accident.

According to police, the incident happened in the 700 block of Mill Run Road in Springfield Township, Fayette County on April 13.

Maddie Molina-Bowers and her boyfriend's young daughter were involved in an accident near the intersection with Hampton Road. Following the crash, Molina-Bowers and the juvenile walked to a nearby home because it was cold.

"What I thought was mom and daughter looked to be a little shaken up," said Cori Wiltrout, the woman who the little girl was left with. "It was really cold; it was like one of the last frosts we had, so I asked mom and a fireman if it was okay to bring the little girl into the house.

Molina-Bowers asked the homeowner to watch the juvenile while she smoked a cigarette.

When the homeowner agreed, Molina-Bowers fled in an unknown direction without the juvenile.

"Said she had to go outside and smoke a cigarette so she did," said Wiltrout. "Probably five to 10 minutes went by and I went to check on her and she was gone. She just vanished and left the little girl with us."

The girl was returned to the custody of her father.

Molina-Bowers is now facing a charge of endangering the welfare of a child. However, she is still missing and it's not known where she is from. The search continues.
