Western Pa. Humane Society's "UberPuppies" Find Forever Homes

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburghers had some four-legged visitors to their offices today.

Uber and the Western Pa. Humane Society paired up to have puppies delivered to workplaces, but it's what happened afterwards that may touch your heart.

There was a line of people waiting when the puppies returned to the shelter and were available for adoption.

Seven of the eight Uber pups found forever homes by the time the shelter closed on Thursday.

"She had my heart at go. As soon as she was in my arms, I melted," said Lynn Zamberlan of Harmony.

She and her daughters brought in their dog, Bear, to make sure he'd mix well with a prospective new puppy. To everyone's relief, the two hit it off.

The Zamberlans had no intention of getting a puppy until they saw the Uber puppy story on the news Wednesday night.

"The puppies were on, and I called my 11-year-old, and I said, "Oh, c'mon there's puppies," said Zamberlan. "She gives me these big eyes and this sad look, and she said, 'Mom, can we get one?' and I said, 'No.' Here we are," she said with a chuckle.

The pups have had a big day. Uber teamed up with the Western Pa. Humane Society to bring them to people's workplaces for 15-minute visits.

"It was a lot of fun, we went to some really cool businesses," said Mary Withrow of the Western Pa. Humane Society. "Just seeing all the employees sitting all over the floor and puppies running around."

It was to raise money and awareness, and apparently, it worked. First in line back the shelter was Dan and Karen Lewis from Butler.

"I've been waiting a long time to have a dog in the house," said Dan Lewis.

Karen Lewis says they saw the one they wanted on TV: "We both looked at each other and said that's the one!"

They went home with a cutie they plan to name Red.

Kristin Binger from Belle Vernon adopted a puppy named Gracie.
