Three Adults Charged In Connection With Teen's Shooting Death

MOUNT PLEASANT (KDKA) -- Three adults are facing charges after a 13-year-old boy was shot and killed by another teen in Westmoreland County in March.

Police say 13-year-old James Robert Gustafson was fatally shot in the face on March 20 at a home on South Church Street. According to a report, five children were present at the home at the time.

Officers say the home belonged to 30-year-old Joshua Hudec.

Police say Hudec kept the firearm used in the shooting fully loaded in an unsecured location, and that all of Hudec's children knew where the gun was kept.

Police say 18-year-old caretaker Brooke Nelson allowed the shooting suspect access to the gun for the purposes of "scaring James Gustafson into leaving the home."

Joshua Hudec and Brooke Nelson are facing charges including endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and possession of a firearm by a minor.

Kristopher Lewis is facing firearms charges, for allegedly selling the firearm used in the shooting to Hudec.
