Allegheny Co. & Santa Clara Co. Place Wager On Stanley Cup Final

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Game on, San Jose Sharks.

Pittsburgh is feeling confident as they head into the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in years. So confident, in fact, we're willing to put our money where our mouth is. And--it's all for a good cause.

Allegheny County and Santa Clara County announced Friday that they have placed a friendly wager on the Pittsburgh Penguins vs. San Jose Sharks Stanley Cup Championship Series.

Both counties will be collecting donations for the Boys and Girls Clubs in their areas. At the end of the series, the contributions will be delivered to the clubs by the bettors, who will be wearing the jersey of the winning team.

"In this region, we not only wear black and gold, we bleed it," said Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald. "We are a sports town, and so it's only fitting that the championship series will bring needed sports equipment to youth in both Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and San Jose, Santa Clara County. I'll enjoy shipping another Penguins jersey to a colleague and think that Supervisor Cortese is going to look good in black and gold."

On the San Jose side, Supervisor Dave Cortese was equally confident.

"This is a bet I'm prepared to make because I know that I will be wearing teal when the series is over," he said.

We'll believe it when we see it.

For the Boys and Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania, donations of new and gently used sports equipment will be accepted for the Sports, Fitness and Recreation Program. The program offers sports participation to youths between the ages of 5 and 18.

A news release states that "participation in the program is a means for the youth to develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment and social skills."

Donations will be accepted in Allegheny County Courthouse's Information Center. The Center is located in the Courthouse Courtyard, off of the Forbes Avenue archway.
