Woman Run Over By Her Own Car In Bizarre Accident At McDonald's Drive-Thru

MOUNT PLEASANT (KDKA) -- A woman is recovering after she was seriously injured in a bizarre accident at a McDonald's drive-thru in Westmoreland County.

Fr. Richard Kosisko, the pastor of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, says of the victim, "We're going to keep in her in our prayers. That's for sure."

Fr. Kosisko is talking about 76-year-old Janet Pfeifer, a member of the St. Pius congregation.

She was badly hurt over the weekend in a bizarre car accident at a McDonald's restaurant drive-thru window in Unity Township.

Pfeifer was picking up her food order at the window when the bag slipped from her hand to the ground. She leaned out of the car to pick it up, but ending up tumbling out of the vehicle.

Her car then rolled forward, striking a knee-high block wall, and then it rolled back, running her over.

She was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital with injuries described by state police as "serious to moderate."

Fr. Kosisko told KDKA-TV's Ralph Iannotti, "I know she needs our prayers. I hope she feels the prayers of St. Pius and all of Mt. Pleasant. We had a beautiful Memorial Day, and I know she was in the hearts of a lot of people here in town."

"I feel bad for her," Mt. Pleasant resident Connie Thompson said. "No one would ever think a car could do something like that. It's just a freak accident."

Janie Garlick, who lives across the street from Pfeifer, said, "Miss Janet is very nice. She is meticulous in keeping her yard and home in shape and she loves her gardening. I hope she makes a full recovery."
