Police Seek Suspect Accused Of Attempting To Abduct Woman, Shooting Her, Stealing Car

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) – A woman is recovering after being shot in New Kensington Tuesday morning.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 2000 block of Baker Street just after 7 a.m. The gunman allegedly tried to abduct the woman and then took off in her car.

"About 10 after 7, I was making coffee right after I got up, and there was a knock on the door," said Scott Walker, a neighbor who called 911. "A lady came up and asked me to call 911, that she was shot."

The 52-year-old woman had been shot once in the shoulder at the end of a dead end street. But, according to police, several shots had been fired from the number of shell casings found at the scene.

Walker says when the woman showed up, he went inside to call 911.

"When I came back out, she was saying that when she got to her house, a masked man forced her into her car, brought her up to the end of the street, and luckily, she was able to jump out of the car," Walker said.

Investigators believe the suspect shot the woman through the car window since there was glass on the ground. A trail of blood indicates the victim ran to several homes before finding Walker at home.

"She was definitely nervous," Walker said. "She was shaking; she had blood on her arm and a shirt. She was pretty shook up."

Police say the suspect took off in the woman's Honda Civic, which was found a few miles away in Upper Burrell. The woman's cell phone was also found.

Police also say the woman is from New Kensington, but not the area where the shooting took place.

"I was just sort of surprised," said Walker. "Something like that doesn't happen on the street on a dead end road."

The woman was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

Westmoreland County detectives have interviewed her, and her car was fingerprinted.

Authorities continue to search for the suspect. The woman's car has been found.
