Allegheny Co. Fire Marshal Investigating 3 Suspicious Fires In McKeesport

McKEESPORT (KDKA) -- Three fires in two days in McKeesport are being considered suspicious, but investigators have not labeled the incidents as arson.

Still, residents like William Ponsonby are worried.

"We are very concerned around here," he says. "There have been a lot of them lately, and one was right behind me."

The fire behind his house was on Cleveland Street. A garage caught fire Monday just before 8:30 p.m.

Just before midnight on the same night, another garage caught fire. It happened on the same street, only about a block away.

But the fire that lit up the sky in McKeesport on Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. was in a vacant house fire on Hazel Street.

The McKeesport fire chief says the house caught fire, and then flames spread to the house next door, which was also vacant.

Audrey DeCorte is another worried resident.

"It does bother me. I would like to get out of this neighborhood, but it has been the nicest neighborhood forever," she said.

But recently, structures have been catching fire in the community, and until the Allegheny County Fire Marshal and the McKeesport Fire Department determine how these fires started, they are still under investigation.
