Survey: Most Americans Get Their News From Social Media

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A majority of adults are getting their news on social media according to a new study.

A survey done by the Pew Research Center showed that 62% of U.S. adults get their news on social media, and 18% of them do so often.

That's up from 49% in 2012 when adults reported seeing news on social media.

As part of the survey the Pew Research Center also analyzed which social media site consumers are getting their news from.

They found that 66% of Facebook users get news from the site, and 59% Twitter users get news from Twitter.

Reddit was actually tops in the survey, an estimated 70% of users get their news from Reddit.

The survey showed that social media news consumers also still got their news from a variety of other sources.

Roughly two-in-ten news users also got news from nightly network television news, and three-in-ten also got news from local television.
