Malkin: I Know It's My Son Because He's 7.1 Pounds

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Evgeni Malkin has had a great few days, to say the least.

Last week, Malkin and his fiancée, Anna Kasterova, applied for a marriage license in Pittsburgh.

Then, Malkin became a dad Tuesday morning.

"It's a great moment in my life. It's changed a little bit right now, but I'm happy, I'm a happy guy," Malkin said.

According to Malkin, his son was born at 9:45 a.m. Malkin said he knew Nikita was his son because he weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce. In case you didn't know, Malkin wears No. 71 for the Penguins.

"I have picture, it's unbelievable. I know it's my son because it's 7.1," Malkin joked. "I want to say thank you to all the Pittsburgh organizations. They did a great job, they support me and support my family."

While it's been a big week for his family, he credits Kasterova with allowing him to be able to remain focused on winning the Stanley Cup.

"My wife do a great job, she says go home and sleep, I go home after everything and sleep like 11 hours. It's good. She do a good job," Malkin said.

With last night's 2-1 overtime win, the Penguins hold a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Final. But, Malkin knows the job is far from complete.

"It's an amazing feeling right now. It's what we wanted, two wins at home, but it's not done," Malkin said.

The Penguins will now head to San Jose for the next two games. Game 3 is Saturday night.
