Multiple Leechburg School District Staff Members Placed On Leave

LEECHBURG (KDKA) -- Several Leechburg Area School District staff members were placed on administrative leave, and the principal at Leechburg Jr.-Sr. High School was escorted from the school on Thursday.

Police also confiscated data from the school district's computer system. KDKA confirms the aim of the investigation is to discover is school officials broke the law by failing to report allegations of child abuse.

This news comes amid allegations that a male substitute teacher had inappropriate contact with female students. According to authorities, nine girls have come forward so far, and "provided written statements to investigators."

The 64-year-old teacher allegedly would stroke students' hair, give students back rubs, touch their thighs and tell them they were "beautiful."

A statement from the Leechburg Area School District reads:

Student safety is the top priority of the Leechburg Area School District. The District has been made aware of allegations that certain staff members did not report alleged child abuse to the proper authorities. The District is cooperating fully with police and CYF investigations. The staff members have been placed on administrative leave pending finalization of this investigation.
