Pirates' Ryan Vogelsong Transferred To 60-Day DL

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates' Ryan Vogelsong will be out a lot longer than initially expected after an incident that sent him to the hospital last week.

Vogelsong was hit in the head while batting during a game on May 23 and was placed on the 15-day disabled list with facial fractures the next day.

The Pirates announced Saturday that he has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list to make room for right-handed pitcher Curtis Partch, who was selected from Triple-A Indianapolis.

The Pirates mentioned on Twitter that Vogelsong underwent surgery to repair the facial fractures on Thursday and that he was resting comfortably at home that same day.

In other roster moves, the Pirates recalled left-handed pitcher Cory Luebke, and optioned right-handed pitcher Wilfredo Boscan and right-handed pitcher Rob Scahill to Indianapolis.
