DA Drops, Expects To Refile Landlord's Prostitution Charges

PITTSBURGH (AP) - The district attorney has dropped prostitution charges against a troubled Pittsburgh-area landlord, but expects to refile them after more investigation.

The charges against 40-year-old Davin Gartley were filed after Pittsburgh police searched one of his properties following a hostage standoff that began there last year.

Police determined Gartley and a 24-year-old woman were using that residence on the South Side, and some of Gartley's other properties, to entertain johns.

DA's spokesman Mike Manko says Wednesday the charges were withdrawn before a preliminary hearing because of unspecified problems with evidence, but that the charges will be refiled.

Gartley's attorney hasn't returned requests for comment.

He's being sued by the state for renting slum-like properties to Bhutanese refugees and owes thousands in fines for substandard rental properties.
