Get Marty: PennDOT Still Working To Fix Tire Slashing Metal Plates

FREEDOM (KDKA) -- PennDOT is still trying to fix a problem with jersey barriers and slashed tires following a Get Marty report.

"I was coming southbound on 65 and I felt a big jolt in the car," says Derek Sicuranzas of Beaver.

Derek is one of more than 100 folks who have filed claims against a contractor who put jersey barriers in for a construction project along Route 65 near Freedom.

"I've certainly never experienced that in over 20 years of highway construction projects," says Dan Cessna of PennDOT.

Cessna says metal plates used to anchor the jersey barriers are ripping apart truck and car tires. He says the contractor has tried two different solutions. Now, the contractor will try again.

If that doesn't work, PennDOT says there will be dramatic action taken.

"These barriers are approved for use across the state of Pennsylvania. This is obviously not going very well," says Cessna.

PennDOT says if they can't fix the problem soon they will remove all similar barriers statewide and replace them.

We will let you know what happens.
