Pittsburgh Penguins Return Home With The Stanley Cup

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins were all smiles when they touched down at Pittsburgh International Airport on Monday.

The team arrived on a chartered plane at the Atlantic Aviation terminal around 5:30 p.m. from San Jose.

The first to exit the aircraft were team officials and family members.

Mario Lemieux was spotted before the players stepped off, along with head coach Mike Sullivan.

Finally, the Stanley Cup was spotted, hoisted high by captain Sidney Crosby.

Marc-Andre Fleury, Trevor Daley and Kris Letang walked over to greet fans and sign autographs. A few dozen well-wishers showed up at Pittsburgh International Airport, but mostly fans were discouraged from coming to greet the team.

Fleury said when he saw a young fan in goalie gear he had to come over.

"We're just waiting for our families to come in and saw this goalie with the '29' gear, had to come say hi," he said.

Letang described the feeling of stepping off the plane.

"It's pretty cool getting back to Pittsburgh and being with our fans that support us all year long. That was a long season and we are happy to be home," he said.

Fans were urged not to try and greet the team at the airport, but instead to wait for the victory parade on Wednesday.

Marianna Greenaway, of Moon Township, was among the diehard fans at the airport along with her family.

Greenaway said, "This is a great day for the city, it brings everybody together."
