Penguins Fans Excited For Stanley Cup Parade Downtown

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A parade for the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins will be held Downtown today.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the first Stanley Cup parade since 2009. Some began lining up along the route Tuesday night.

"I just want to see the pens bring home Lord Stanley," one fan said.

Road closures begin at 9 a.m. and the parade starts at 11:30 a.m. Officials expect at least 350,000 people to attend the celebration.

The parade will travel down Grant Street, turning onto the Boulevard of the Allies, and end at Stanwix Street.

Some of the street closures went into effect Tuesday at 9 p.m. along parts of Stanwix Street and the lower half of the Boulevard of the Allies, and at Wood Street down to Commonwealth Place. The rest of the street closures start at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.
